Apple rolled out the third beta of the upcoming iOS11.1 update to developers and later to public beta testers. It is only one week after the release of second beta and a month after the official release of iOS 11. The final version of iOS 11.1 is expected to release this month with new features such as 3D Touch App Switching gesture.
Presumably the latest beta mainly contains bug fixes and small tweaks to the features introduced in the previous beta. There are some changes found in 3rd beta, which include 3D Touch quick action shortcuts frame rate issues fixed, access Notifications and widgets via reachability, as well as haptics return for incorrect passcodes.
On previous versions of iOS, a noticeable stutter may arise when users invoke a quick action shortcut menu by using a 3D Touch gesture on a valid app icon. In 3rd beta the frame rate issue has been fixed, which makes using 3D Touch smoother. And beta testers can invoke the list of recent notifications with the assistance of Reachability.
iOS 11.1 beta includes the return of 3D Touch gestures for multitasking and also hundreds of new emoji characters. The 3D Touch app switch gesture has been removed from iOS 11 and now it comes back so that users can once again press the left edge of the display to bring up multitasking interface. Meanwhile, the new emoji characters will be offered when you type related words using the built-in keyboard.
Registered developers can get the latest beta via Apple’s Developer Center (or over-the-air when proper configuration profiles has been installed from Developer Center. Those who are enrolled in Apple’s Beta Software Program are able to download and install the public beta. If you have a previous beta of iOS 11.1 installed on your iPhone, you can head to Settings > General > Software Update to install the third beta (before that, make sure to connect to a WiFi network and have more than 50% battery on the device).
Apple also released the third betas of tvOS 11.1 and watchOS 4.1 as well. What additional features or changes have you found in recent betas? Share with us here.
