The Verfier: iOS 11 Could Allow Group Video Calls on FaceTime”

According to recent rumors, Apple seems to finally introduce group video calling to FaceTime with the release of iOS 11 in 2017. The Verfier, a Israel tech blog, posted a message on 21 January that FaceTime in iOS 11 could support group video calling, and this change is one of the crucial measures to satisfy Users’ long-term request for iOS devices, citing the sources familiar with iOS development, as they said.

“The next update, iOS 11, will include several new features, one of which is able to make a call multi-user video service FaceTime”, posted the blog, “the next update for the iOS operating system 11, will be more Update ‘social’ that will put an emphasis primarily on chats on iMessage and FaceTime.” The report also claims that the group video feature on FaceTime will be supposed to support calling up to five members.

Though the rumor is not from the most rock solid of sources, and currently there is no other report that can support this claim, it still has a certain credibility, considering that Apple does have engineers working in Israel. Group video calling feature has been integrated in many popular video apps like Microsoft’s Skype, Facebook’s Messenger and Google’s Hangouts. On the contrary, FaceTime has been supporting only two users since its first introduction in 2010. It would be difficult to believe that Apple has no plan to add group video calls to its own video app FaceTime in future.

Traditionally Apple releases a preview of a brand new iOS every June at its Worldwide Developers Conference. It is not clear how reliable this information is, but we believe many users do look forward to see this feature (which allows our friends and family to mutually communicate through one video) show off in WWDC 2017.
