Correct Ways to Uninstall 5KPlayer on Mac

5KPlayer is a free HD video player/music player and online downloader. Like other third party apps, 5KPlayer can be installed by a simple drag to the Applications folder. However, if you want to uninstall 5KPlayer after a period of usage, you may fail to completely remove this app only by a simple drag to the Trash, as some of its associated files, which are not stored in the app package, still remain in the system.

How to completely remove 5KPlayer from your Mac? This tutorial will show you the proper steps to uninstall an unwanted app on macOS. Two different uninstall methods are involved and some tricks are introduced in the following to enable clean removal.

Method 1: Uninstall 5KPlayer by Trashing It

Uninstalling an app on Mac is straightforward as you only need to do the following:

  • Open up Finder from the Dock, and head to the /Applications folder
  • Locate 5KPlayer in this folder, right click on it and choose Move Trash (alternatively, drag 5KPlayer icon to the Trash icon in the Dock and drop it into icon)

  • Choose Empty Trash from the Finder menu (or right click Trash icon in Dock and choose Empty the Trash), and then click Empty Trash in the confirmation dialog

This trash-to-delete option is available for all versions of Mac OS X / macOS system. Most standard apps can be easily uninstalled by this way. Yet, it may not work for security software and malicious apps. If the trashing method fails to remove the app you don’t want to keep, go ahead to see if the alternative method below works.

Trick (1): quit 5KPlayer before the uninstall

Have you encountered the message saying that the item 5KPlayer can’t be moved to the Trash because it’s open? In that case, first check if 5KPlayer icon appears in the Dock. If so, right click on 5KPlayer icon in Dock, and choose Quit option.

  • Launch Activity Monitor in Dock (or from the Spotlight)
  • Locate and select 5KPlayer under the Process Name
  • Click X button in the upper left corner of the window
  • Click Quit button in the pop-up window to confirm the act

After shutting down the app, you should be able to delete it smoothly. Besides, you can right click on 5KPlayer icon in Dock, and choose Options > Remove from Dock.

Trick (2): delete 5KPlayer-related files in system

The 5KPlayer app itself has been removed by deleting it from the Finder or Launchpad, but does it mean that all components of 5KPlayer have been removed? You can utilize the Search feature in Finder to find out the truth by yourself:

  • In a Finder window, click Go menu from the top bar and choose Go to Folder
  • Type Library in the box, and hit Go button, to access to the hidden system folder

  • As the Library folder opens, type 5KPlayer (or the vendor’s name) in the search box
  • Select the files and folder related to 5KPlayer, and delete them all to the Trash
  • Repeat the steps to delete any 5KPlayer component in the ~/Library folder

After doing all these, you should have fully detected removed 5KPlayer 8 from your system. But still, you are suggested not to empty the Trash after deleting those files. Keep them for a few days and if nothing wrong occur, you could consider to delete them permanently. Otherwise, put them back if the deletion triggers problems.
